Agriculture

 This week on the agriculture blog we will talk about how much goes into “farming”. Farming most people just think well you basically just get crops and plant them and combine them. Well that’s not really just it. They have to go over the field with spray to kill bugs so they don’t ruin the crops. They have to spray the field to keep voluntary beans or corn to come up. Also have to spray for weeds. You never want any voluntary crops coming up because it could be rejected if it was taken to the place that buys the crops. I’ve worked for a farmer before and I have to go pull rye out of a wheat field and let me tell you that sucks to do!

    I never thought of the other parts that come with being a farmer. I just looked over it. This makes me realize that there is much more that comes from growing crops.

Energy: Hydropower Pros and Cons

 Hydropower is not often talked about as a primary option for sustainable energy, however, 6.6% of energy produced in the U.S. is through hydropower, compared to solar energy which happens to only be 2.3% and is usually the first thought when someone mentions “clean energy.” The reason for this being the majority hydropower plants only give energy to large-scale, industrial operations.  Hydropower boasts a few positives that make it a viable option, those being that it is reliable, safe, and produces a very low amount of emissions. Other than that, they are fairly expensive to build, and they have a very realistic potential to cause droughts.
