A global energy crisis is coming. There's no quick fix Energy crisis will set off social unrest, private-equity billionaire warns Each week I try taking different avenues of the energy topic.  This week I decided I would just google the word energy and see what came up.  Well, that was almost as scary as watching horror movies in the dark.  Nearly every article had some mention of a crisis in it. Of course I decided to explore further.  What I found, as many of you have undoubtedly noticed, the price of fuel at the gas pump has skyrocketed in the past year.  This is because of the colossal price increase of natural gas, coal and oil.  What does this mean?  Well beyond just the obvious of price, there are social impacts.  With winter coming on many scientists, economists and leaders are worried about not only having enough energy sources but also how vulnerable households are going to be able to pay for it.  Many believe this is caused ...

Water: Global issues

Image
Better access to water is helping create new possibilities for people in some of the world’s most remote communities. Goal 6 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Photo: UNOPS GLOBAL ISSUES Water Water is at the core of sustainable development and is critical for socio-economic development, energy and food production, healthy ecosystems and for human survival itself. Water is also at the heart of adaptation to climate change, serving as the crucial link between society and the environment. Water is also a rights issue. As the global population grows, there is an increasing need to balance all of the competing commercial demands on water resources, so that communities have enough for their needs. In particular, women and girls must have access to clean, private sanitation facilities to manage menstruation and maternity in dignity and safety. At the human level, water cannot be seen in isolatio...

What’s Wrong With the Hudson River

Image
The Hudson River that is located in New York has multiple issues. The main one is that it is extremely nasty. There is a viral video that had went around of a young woman that had jumped into the Hudson River. When she jumps in there is a cloud of dirty water that appears. The River is significantly polluted. This is an issue because the environment in and around the River is affected.  https://www.distractify.com/p/why-is-the-hudson-river-so-gross

Human conservation

Matheus Storck   The health of the environment and human health are intertwined, our well-being, nutrition, ability to avoid diseases totally linked to the food we eat, liquids we drink and the air we breathe.     Historically, conservation and human health have been treated as separate, but now, more than ever, the two are entering the same conversations.   Water use, fertilizer consumption, paper and plastic production and energy use have all increased exponentially.     As humans consume more, the planet is subsequently degraded at an unsustainable rate.     Studies show that the increase in vitamins and CO2 means that crops are harvested with lower levels of essential vitamins and nutrients, and the degradation of coral reefs will result in the loss of access to food for up to 500 million people.     In order to explore how conservation and human health converge, and where gaps exist, WWF hosted the Fuller Science for Nature Sy...

Waste Disposal

Image
https://www.conserve-energy-future.com/sources-effects-methods-of-solid-waste-management.php By: Brea Shipley       There are many things that we do that effects our land. One of the big things is waste disposal. We throw so much away everyday, but when you are doing so you probably do not think about where it is going to go. Most of the waste that we throw out ends up at landfill sites. Here the waste sits and waits to be burned. The problem with this is when we are burning these waste piles we are putting smoke and different gases into our atmosphere. There is also biodegradable things, but they can also let off gasses, such as methane gas, while they are decomposing. This is why we need to recycle as much as we can, so we do not have these big landfill sites. http://gd-environmental.co.uk/waste-disposal-affect-earth/

Coral reefs fight to save the ocean's food factories (Riley Burns)

Many people believe that coral reefs were dying due too the oceans warming and pollution. This is a very bad situation for out water environment because  although coral reefs may be small, they are homes for an extreme amount of ocean life. But more importantly, the capture carbon dioxide and are food sources. Although many are still standing, they are being loss in groups going slowly. Soon enough they will all be gone. https://www.euronews.com/green/2021/10/26/coral-reefs-the-fight-to-save-the-ocean-s-food-factories

Agricultural must change

We has a human race have had some tuff times in the world but not has bad as what wE are facing when it comes to climate change. The times that’s we are facing about this new change can effectively hurt the way we eat, sleep, and live our life’s for many years to come. There have been a lot warning sign that say we need to change the way we treat our world. There are many great ideas to help fix the problem but they lead make to use getting them started and us work on them. That’s one of the things we need to work on is following through with our promises that we make. We have all the opportunities to help fix our world and make it a better place for environment to grow. Humans must drastically alter food production to prevent the most catastrophic effects of global warming, according to a new report from the United Nations panel on climate change. The panel of scientists looked at the climate change effects of agriculture, deforestation and other land use, such as harvesting peat ...

Energy: Biden and Natural Gas

Image
This article reviews how Biden's policies have put the power in the hands of the elite in fossil fuels to hold our prices insanely high. When we don't use federal land for extracting natural gas and preemptively shut down the Keystone XL Pipeline. "Retail gas prices – averaging $3.38 per gallon on Oct. 25 – have risen roughly 50% in 2021, surpassing pre-pandemic levels." This rise in natural gas costs will prove to be quite horrible for low-income citizens, who depend on a semi-constant rate for winter heating. How this crisis will be handled by low-income metropolitan areas, which depend on natural gas to warm their cities. "Combined with price spikes across a variety of goods, inflation is hitting Americans’ wallets and threatening the economic rebound heading into the 2022 midterm elections." Below is the article that details the causation of most of our economic issues. CLICK FOR ARTICLE -Konnor T. Wright

The tiger : endangered species

Image
The tiger named Panthera Tigris is one of the most famous animal species. It has inspired many civilizations and is also found in films and cartoons. However this species is in danger of extinction. This article presents us this harmful phenomenon to force us to react. It is a different article from the others and that's why I chose it. Today in Asia, we count 3900. Whereas one century before there were 100 000 wild tigers.  There is a presentation sheet of the tiger. We can see for example that a female weighs 170 kg against 300 kg for a male and that this species is present in Asia including China, India, Nepal or Russia Tigers live in forests and are important to perpetuate the food chain and not create imbalance between species. Moreover, where there are tigers, tourists go. So this is important for the tourist economy. It is really necessary to preserve the tiger as well as all the endangered animals.  Rayane Baitiche https://wwf.ca/species/tigers/

Energy: Wind Turbine Production

Previously, I have done a lot of discussions regarding the expansion of electric vehicle production, however there are many different types of renewable energy that can also reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Wind turbines have been around for a long time, and thousands are used all around the country to produce electricity for small communities, or large-scale, industrial complexes. Because a single wind turbine doesn’t produce enough electricity to sustain a single structure, multiple turbines are used, depending on how much power is required. Wind turbines do not release any emissions and they don’t require water for cooling. Thy work well in areas that get a lot of wind, however this cannot always be reliable, and may sway one’s decision to switch to wind energy. With that, a lot of turbines in a wind farm are required to produce enough energy. In theory, these structures sound great, however they can be unreliable if the weather doesn’t act in our favor. There are much better soluti...

The Fight Against Food Insecurity

Image
By: Kaitlyn Witthar Many Americans face the major issue of food insecurity. This can be influenced or caused by income, and employment security, and disability status. Food insecurity can especially affect children and can affect them throughout their lifetime because it is often a predictor of chronic illness, low birth weight, lower school performance, and developmental problems. Missouri averaged 16.8 percent food insecurity and 7.9 percent very low food security. Read this article to learn more from statistics about food security in Missouri.  I think we need to pay more attention to how much food we waste because many people don't even get the opportunity to eat at all.  Link:  https://mokidscount.org/stories/the-fight-against-food-insecurity/

Helping our land

I know I tend to talk more about the negatives we have done on our land and how to fix it, but this week I wanna talk more about how we have already started to help our land. It is a process that does need to be taken slow, if you do it right it will bring more clean water, more food, and even more income to some people. First thing we need to start doing is understanding the land itself, second thing we need to do is set goals, and the last thing we need to do is make something that tracks the progress. Read more about the benefits we can do and have done to help our land in this article.  Kala Davis road-restoration-3-steps-transforming-landscapes

Southwest Water Concerns

The growing concerns in the Southwest United States with droughts and climate change impacting the Colorado River, but the state that is the main focus is Arizona. At first, Arizona had many flowing rivers allowing many communities to thrive, but over time rivers being to dry up due to overallocation and groundwater pumping. In present time, the flows of the Colorado has shrunk about close to 20%, which can cause problems for Arizona since this is the primary sustainable water supply.   An organization called ZSL are trying to protect the population of Asiatic Lions from going to extinct. The problem with the lion populations in western India are slowly decreasing because disease and natural disasters occurring in southern Gujarat. Thankfully, poaching hasn't been a real concern because how determined the forest rangers are to protecting the lions.  ZSL is trying to find vets in order to keep the lions alive. There are only 600 lions remaining in the southern part of Gujarat so it is a huge deal to keep them safe. Luckily, communities living around the lions are trying their hardest to keep space for the lions to live, sleep, and breed there.   https://www.zsl.org/conservation/regions/asia/protecting-asiatic-lions-in-the-gir-forest

What is environmental conservation and why is it important?

Image
Environmental Conservation is the practice of preserving the natural world to prevent it from collapsing as a result of human activities, such as unsustainable agriculture, deforestation and burning fossil fuels.  Side effects of these practices include toxic air, plastic pollution, destruction of natural habitats and most urgently, climate change. Scientists warn  that if we don’t act soon, this will lead to an even further increase in natural disasters, rising sea levels and extreme weather, resulting in collapsed ecosystems, mass extinction of wildlife, food scarcity and global displacement of people.  As a community of eco travelers, we hold a deep appreciation for the natural world and want to experience it in a way that is responsible, sustainable and meaningful. At IVHQ, our internal operations are climate neutral and we’ve created a climate action plan  that includes a goal to offset all volunteer flight emissions by 2025. https://www.volunteerhq.org/b...

Agriculture

Image
In this weeks agriculture blog we will talk about, the problems agriculture is facing in North America. Are prices are so high for agriculture, our population is expected to swell about 9 billion people very soon. If this does happen and they are right farmers will have to learn how to cope with things better than they do now. Which I’m my opinion I think they do a pretty good job coping with things but I guess everyone does not think that. They think farmers will have to do a better job at coping with weather and when we have a drought which the drought part i do agree with because I hear farmers crying all the time when it’s to dry but never wanna go out and do something about it. We have to get these little issues fixed to keep having a good environment.  Thanks for reading my blog, Carson

Road Blocks- Liam Guthrie

Image
This week after reviewing and posting about lots of neat and innovative forms of clean and renewable energy.  Thought  I would review the road blocks that are present keeping them from being more widely accepted and available. I found 2 articles that I found interesting.  The most interesting thing about them is there is nearly 4 years difference in their publication but the barriers albeit worded differently are nearly the same.  The top barriers seem to be cost and politics.  I honestly expected the cost to be at the top.  It seems as if cost is the barrier to a lot of things that are new.  I wanted to know more why the cost was a barrier.  The article specifically emphasized the most widely used sources of renewable clean energy  wind and solar power.  First there is the cost of siting and transmission.  Siting, which involves finding the location of placing the turbines or panels, is often difficult due to time contranstr...

How has the world change from agriculture

When we think about how country’s run we think of imports, exports and how much they trade with other country’s. In the last two years we has a humans have suffered from COVID-19 and that put a stop to a lot of business around the world. There was some groups of people who still had to go to work in person. They were farmers they had to go feed there live stock and make sure there crops where growing go the right way for them to sell to make ends meet that year. A lot of family farms had to sold to keep food on the table, a roof over there heads, and clothes.  Agriculture is also crucial to economic growth: in 2018, it accounted for 4% of global gross domestic product (GDP) and in some developing countries,  it can account for more than 25% of GDP . https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/agriculture/overview#1

Energy: New Hydrogen Plant in NY

Image
While most people know about different Avenues for achieving renewable energy such as solar, wind, and water,  most people do not know about hydrogen power plants. This type of energy feeds off of hydrogen fuel in order to create energy for nearby communities. One such plant has been instated in Albany New York and has a lot of promising foresight.  The plant will cost around 298 million dollars,  but it is expected to bring in 6,800 new jobs. This will not only improve the economy in terms of cutting the cost of electricity, thereby free more Expendable capital for the users of traditional sources of energy, but will introduce new sources of income into the local economies of those people who receive paychecks from this plant. Below you will find the link to the article by Bank News 9; hope you enjoy the read as much as I did composing this blog. -Konnor T. Wright CLICK HERE FOR A LINK TO THE ARTICLE

The impact of the habitat destruction

Image
Today I would like to talk about a problem that affects us on earth. It is the destruction of the habitat of animal species. The destruction of habitat is one of the biggest threats of our time and it must be fought to the maximum.  It is caused mainly by man, especially with drilling, mining and urbanization, which has an impact on about 80% of species. This represents about 15 billion trees cut down. The number of trees has decreased by 46% since the beginning of civilization. This phenomenon reduces the capacity of forests to absorb carbon and thus reinforces climate change.  https://blog.nationalgeographic.org/2019/09/25/the-global-impacts-of-habitat-destruction/ Rayane baitiche

Extinction

Image
Matheus Storck    Extinction is increasingly an issue around the world and Australia is known as a country with the highest rates of endangered species of extinction. Recently the Australian government confirmed the extinction of 13 animals, 12 of them mammals and 1 reptile, is a very large number of species. Suzanne Milthorpe of the Wilderness Society said that “no other country, rich or poor, has anything like this record” for mammal extinctions. She said Haiti is next on the IUCN list in mammal extinctions, with a total of nine. This all just shows how close we are to a major disaster, this is all a reminder that if we don't take care of or if we don't preserve these animals more species will become extinct and eventually result in total extinction. https://www.theguardian.com/science/2021/mar/03/australia-confirms-extinction-of-13-more-species-including-first-reptile-since-colonisation

Tap Water

Image
You must have heard about it a thousand times: plastic bottles are bad for the environment and for your health. They pollute our oceans, our rivers, our lakes. They help microparticles of plastic to enter your body with almost every sip. Everybody is talking about it. With all the scary stuff you read online, heard on the radio or saw on TV, you're ready to ditch the plastic bottle once and for all, but you need to find a good replacement first. After all, bottled water might be pictured as the devil, but it still is convenient, accessible, and healthier than tap water, right? Wrong. Here are three good reasons why you should ditch the plastic bottle  for  filtered tap water instead. 1. Tap water is safe to drink, using the right filter Tap water is safe and healthy to drink, as long as you use the right water filter at home. In fact, bottled water is not as safe as you might think it is. Numerous studies have shown that most water in plastic bottles contain microparticles of ...

Land and Soil Pollution

Image
https://www.emedicalprep.com/study-material/chemistry/environmental-chemistry/soil-pollution/ By: Brea Shipley         I found an article by EEA about our land and soil pollution. Soil and land pollution are a very important thing and they tie together very well. Whenever we have pollution on our land it can get into the soil. As many of us probably already know pesticides and fertilizers are used on many parts of the land. The things we put on the land for farming get soaked into the soil. These chemicals can then get into different waterways. These things that we put on the land can reduce oxygen levels in water, harm animals and plant species. This is something that needs to be stopped. We need to think about all of the other things we are affecting when we put these things into our land and soil. https://www.eea.europa.eu/signals/signals-2020/articles/land-and-soil-pollution

How are rare plants conserved?

Image
When it comes to conservation it’s not only animals that need special help. So do plants and certain habitats. These can go unnoticed by many people and would have no clue if they were gone. There are many habitats that need help, some ways we help these are by simply allowing natural disturbance by fire, water, or wind to return the ecosystem back to normal. In the link below it will include more information on what types of habitats and plants are struggling and need help. https://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/Rare_Plants/conservation/index.shtml

Family Farms

Image
Family Farms  https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2017/07/20/diverse-family-farms-are-important-us-agriculture By: Cody Hughes In this article it talks about family farms and about how they make up 99% of our 2.1 billion farms. Then it goes over about how small farms and the numbers that are compared with other big farms. It also shows some cool graphs in the article. In one of the graphs it shows number of farms, land operation, and value of production. Then in the end of the article it has a graph that shows what percent of our farms are million dollar farms. Overall I thought this was interesting because I thought that family farms made up more produce in the community and locally instead of making up most of everything.

Picking Up Plastic (Riley Burns)

As we all know, plastic is taking over our oceans. It is getting to a point where it is impossible for humans to physically pick it all up. But something phenomenal was invented. A Dutch inventor created a machine that picked up 20,000 pounds of plastic last week in the Pacific Ocean. The nonprofit organization for The mechanical way to clean the ocean is in hopes of removing 90% of the oceans plastic by the year 2040. https://futurism.com/the-byte/huge-machine-ocean-plastic  (Plastic pick up)

Energy: Electric Vehicle Production

Image
Americans are buying electric vehicles in record numbers, however this amount is much lower than what current manufacturers have set their targets at. Many companies have transitioned into producing electric models, to eventually be able to compete with large companies, like Tesla, while still maintaining that familiar, gasoline option that so many people are already using. Another aspect of the increase in electric vehicle production is the new need for charging stations that aren’t stationed as the homes of the consumers. In response to this, f ederal lawmakers are proposing up to $7.5 billion for states to build an abundance of charging stations as part of the infrastructure bill moving through the Senate. These goals have been set by major companies in order to advertise the benefits of converting to electric vehicles. https://www.wsj.com/articles/auto-makers-aim-to-boost-ev-sales-to-40-50-of-u-s-sales-by-2030-11628110425

Whats happening to their natural homes?

In this article you can read about how us humans are destroying the natural homes for our creatures. It states how due to what we have done and we dramatically change an environment it may no Lon get be able to animals to find their basic needs. It is now becoming so hard for animals to find food, water, a place to raise a young just because of our effects on their habitats. That is their home and way to survive and unlike us they can not just go out and get more, they have a limited supply of the stuff they need so we should really think about what we are doing to their environment.  Kala Davis  Habitat-Loss

Some baby food may contain toxic metals

Image
By: Kaitlyn Witthar As soon as I read the title, I was intrigued to learn more because this was such a dangerous thing that I had never heard about. Many of the baby food that was tested for its ingredients contained heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, and cadmium which could lead to behavioral impairments, brain damage, and even death. FDA spokesman says that the agency is working on limiting the toxins in baby food. While heavy metals are found in some grains and vegetables, it could increase when companies add other ingredients to the natural ones in their baby food products.  I think this is information that more people need to know about, especially parents because most of them just buy what the popular brands of baby food are instead of actually looking at the list of ingredients to make sure it is safe for their child to comsume.  Link:  https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/04/health/baby-food-metals-arsenic.html

How we can help out irreplaceable regions? Alexander Blase

Image
There is a organization called EDGE that helps out with species and regions that are becoming irreplaceable because of human activity. This includes places like the Caribbean and Solomon Islands which is the reason for species including mammals and reptiles that are having problems finding a home to live because of us, humans, who have homes nears islands and the coast.  This isn't good for all the unique species that we don't see everyday. Regions that have unique species including the Western Swamp Turtle, are facing changes of climate or human pressure. Climate change is a huge problem because it has increased a whooping 160x more in irreplaceable regions across the earth. If this doesn't stop, we won't see any regions in the future if they aren't protected. https://www.edgeofexistence.org

Agriculture

Image
I’ve read up on some topics about agriculture. One that really stuck out to me was about how farmers that are more successful have livestock and crops and they keep them very separate. Studies show that when they have 2 things to do they really get on time for a schedule and get them done on time. Whereas if they just had crops they would take some of the day off and do some crops and wait for the next day but not with livestock they will stay on schedule.  By: Carson

How we can change agricultural

We have has a human race have seen a lot of new change in our world in past 10 years. If you came and told me that in the 2020 there will a global pandemic. I would have look and ask what that meant because I was not old enough to understand. I have work on farmers where I have seen change in the way of how we need to change or fix the way we raised our cattle and life stock.  There were times we we didn’t have the food to feed our cattle so we have to spend more money and buy something we didn’t even know that they would week.  Climate change poses a real threat to farmers around the world. Agriculture is highly dependent on good weather, including high and low temperatures, rainfall, wind intensity, and many other variables. Estimates show that climate change  might reduce global agriculture productivity  by 17% by 2050. For countries highly dependent on agricultural exports, like Brazil, this poses a real problem. Research shows that climate change-driven changes ...

Energy: Advantages and Disadvantages of Electric Vehicles

Electric cars present themselves as a way to be much more environmentally friendly, compared to standard, gasoline-powered vehicles. The majority of citizens in the United States still drive gas-powered cars, and only a small percentage has moved towards the electric option. Because they are a relatively new idea, a lot of people are fairly uncertain about the pros and cons of operating an electric vehicle. The switch is subjective, but I think it would be a good option for people to at least consider switching to drive an electric car. The most significant factor, and the main reason that most people don’t make the switch is the initial cost. Yes, electric cars are a bit more expensive than the standard, gasoline models, but after the initial cost, maintenance is very cost efficient. The main reason a person would want to switch to an electric vehicle is because they are much more energy efficient. With that, they are easy to maintain, and they reduce CO2 emissions.  https:/...

Water and health

Water and health Contaminated water and poor sanitation are linked to transmission of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. Absent, inadequate, or inappropriately managed water and sanitation services expose individuals to preventable health risks. This is particularly the case in health care facilities where both patients and staff are placed at additional risk of infection and disease when water, sanitation, and hygiene services are lacking. Globally, 15% of patients develop an infection during a hospital stay, with the proportion much greater in low-income countries. Inadequate management of urban, industrial, and agricultural wastewater means the drinking-water of hundreds of millions of people is dangerously contaminated or chemically polluted. Some 829 000 people are estimated to die each year from diarrhea as a result of unsafe drinking-water, sanitation, and hand hygiene. Yet diarrhea is largely preventable, and the deaths of 297 ...

Effects of Erosion

Image
By: Hannah Meadows        The article I read was called, “Erosion and Weathering”, by National Geographic. This article discusses the influence of the weather and precipitation. Weathering and erosion happens when rock is slowly chiseled, polished, and buffed into works of art, and then the remains are washed out to sea. According to National Geographic, “Weathering is the mechanical and chemical hammer that breaks down and sculpts the rocks. Erosion transports the fragments away.” When weathering and erosion work together they create boulders high in the mountains, sandstone arches in the desert, and polished cliffs on the edge of the sea.      National Geographic explains water as nature’s greatest tool. For example, “the water pools in cracks and crevices. Then, at night, the temperature drops and the water expands as it turns to ice, splitting the rock like a sledgehammer to a wedge. The next day, under the beating sun, the ice melts and tric...

Land Pollution

Image
https://steemit.com/nature/@lapilipinas/the-world-environmental-issues By: Brea Shipley      In the world there is not a single piece of land that has not been impacted my pollution. They have been impacted my things such as deforestation, fires, waste, and many other things.  Every piece of land has had some sort of pollution on it. This is a very bad thing for our world. Littering is the main cause of land pollution. People do not think about how much they are affecting the land when they litter. When we have such bad pollution in the land it causes water to become unsafe to drink, pollution in the soils, the endangerment and extinction of wildlife, and many other things. The plus about all of this is we can do things to help, such as reformation, recycling, reducing the things we use, using less pesticides in agriculture, and many more.  https://www.texasdisposal.com/blog/land-pollution/

Energy: China is Running on Fumes...Literally

Image
This blog will detail the complexities of different economies that are reliant on fossil fuels, specifically China. Recently due to a transportation shortage of coal, a resource China is heavily reliant on, China's energy and electricity prices have soared. The obvious problem with this besides the occasional hike in prices is that fossil fuels are finite; they will eventually come to an end. When this end reaches and coal can no longer be used as the main resource prices will not only soar exponentially as the rarity of coal increases, but the value of energy will be far more pricey for citizens. The main and glaring problem with this is that China is one of the world's largest producer economies, so when they slow down due to a lack of coal all main consumer economies will slow as well, the USA in particular. -Konnor T.   Energy  I have posted many articles on the ideas of different types of clean and reliable energy sources but none of those can happen with out the support of our government leaders working together to develop a plan.  I simply energy legislation of 2021 and found some encouraging things to share.  What I was most impressed about was these were bipartisan decisions something we have all been keenly aware is rare thing in Washington DC right now. I found articles on the Energy Infrastructure Act of 2021.   If passed it would allot 100 BILLION dollars to invest in the effectiveness of our electric grid, build out domestic supply chains for clean energy technologies, invest in water infrastructure for western states in need of supply due to wildfires and drought.  That would help mitigate the fires and restore the ecosystem destroyed by fires.  The funding is also there to clean up some of our old energy sources like abandoned mines.  This bill...

8 strangest renewable resources- Liam

Strangest renewable energy sources There are so many different renewable energy sources, but today I am going to talk about the one that caught my eye the most. The first one that really caught my eye was the “ Jellyfish Power. Since jellyfish can shock you, they have the ability to be a great renewable energy source, and to think a very non thought of fish could do something like that, certain jellyfish can be used to generate solar power. It's crazy to think that a jellyfish could charge your phone. These cells are called green fluorescent protein (GFP) and they have the ability to generate solar power

Threats to Our Oceans

Image
Kayla Karpe  It has been noticed that there are multiple factors that are impacting our oceans. Such reason is the pollution specifically in plastic. The plastic is being eaten by all of the marine life that it is starting to end up on our plates. Another factor that is killing the oceans is the over population of fishing. There is not enough fish in the oceans for fishermen to be catching. This results in a lack of fish.  There are solutions to these issues. The main solution is sanctuaries, protecting them is the main part. There are sanctuaries that are as large or larger than the states of Texas, California, and New York. These sanctuaries need to be protected so that there can be more marine life and cleaner oceans for the marine life.  https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/oceans/issues/

Marine Conservation

Matheus Storck  The ocean is a superpower on our planet, home to ecosystems in addition to covering 71% of our planet. Studies show that when ocean ecosystems are resilient, so are those close to them. A group of researchers analyzed more than one study to better understand the connection between marine protection and human and human health that most people derive the social, health, economic, governance and ecological benefits of a healthy ocean. But they are not guaranteed. But over the years this has all been disrupted by excessive use and pollution, thousands of marine mammals, seabirds and sea turtles are caught each year, along with tens of millions of sharks. Half of all coral reefs and mangroves are gone. WWF is trying to find solutions to fix broken global systems that lead to the decline of nature, while protecting the places that wildlife and people cannot live without. Our ocean plays a crucial role in keeping the planet's temperature balanced and boo sting climat...

Would California Businesses Collapse Due to Water Restrictions?

As the progression of water droughts in the United States, California has recorded to be the second driest water year with an historical drop of reservoir capacity from 93% to 60%. This situation has become an official “state of emergency” to reduce the water usage by 15%,     but more water restrictions were made as the issue hasn’t changed so this is where it starts to affect businesses in California. Read more about how businesses in California are being affect by the water restrictions… https://www.morningbrew.com/daily/stories/2021/10/10/what-water-restrictions-mean-for-california-s-businesses Kaitlyn “KK” Kongdara

The soil, a great wealth

Today we are going to talk about the different organic sources present in the soil. This is an article that was published on the site "Sciencing" on July 21, 2017.  An organic matter consists of decomposing plant and animal matter I knew that microbes from various sources. It is widely used by gardeners because it promotes rapid plant growth and improves soil structure and minimizes soil erosion by moisture-retaining winds.  The first kind of organic matter can be characterized as animal manure, which is the excrement left in a pile. It contains nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur.  We can also find this phenomenon when mowing the lawn which can provide up to 25% of the total fertilizer needs of a lawn. Vegetable peelings (potatoes, carrots, cabbage...) can be released in the form of a compost heap which favors the appearance of fungi, bacteria and earthworms which allow the appearance of nutrients. It is a process of decomposition. Cardboard or straw can also play this role....
