Be turned on —– turn it off- Liam Guthrie
A global energy crisis is coming. There's no quick fix
Energy crisis will set off social unrest, private-equity billionaire warns
Each week I try taking different avenues of the energy topic. This week I decided I would just google the word energy and see what came up. Well, that was almost as scary as watching horror movies in the dark. Nearly every article had some mention of a crisis in it. Of course I decided to explore further. What I found, as many of you have undoubtedly noticed, the price of fuel at the gas pump has skyrocketed in the past year. This is because of the colossal price increase of natural gas, coal and oil. What does this mean? Well beyond just the obvious of price, there are social impacts. With winter coming on many scientists, economists and leaders are worried about not only having enough energy sources but also how vulnerable households are going to be able to pay for it. Many believe this is caused by the steep demand for energy after the pandemic and major weather events that have disrupted the system.
I feel like the articles I reviewed only bolstered the need for renewable energy. We aren't going to make more fossil fuels as the saying goes “what we got is what we got”. We need to invest in renewable energy even if it is used in combination with fossil fuels. It will eliminate extremely high prices on energy for the countries that are able to be more independent and produce their own energy needs.
Finally an area I haven't focused on much is conservation of energy from fossil fuels. As my title states, be turned on ( to the energy crisis) turn it off ( lights, heat etc.). For the winter of 2022 that will probably be the best way to reduce energy costs. By doing that you are also being a good steward to our planet.
