Shake it up!!- Liam Guthrie

 Shake it up!!!

Being from the Midwest sometimes I feel don’t understand the environmental changes going on around the world like those in coastal regions.  I explored the topic of fracking because of the recent earthquakes in Kansas and Oklahoma.  I found it interesting that between 2014 and 2017 that area experienced more earthquakes than California.  Around 2013 is when Kansas began fracking for oil. For those of you that may not know fracking is where they inject some type of liquid, usually wastewater, deep into the earth to force open small existing holes in order to extract oil or gas.

I recently watched a disaster film 10.0 magnitude that evolved around the extremes of what deep fracking can do.  Check it out if you are interested! I think this article if anything has opened my eyes to what could be right in our own backyard. I noticed that Kansas has had put legislation in motion to help mitigate the earthquakes and hopefully keep the big ones away!

  1. I loved that you explained what was going on in Kansas and Oklahoma. You even told us that we should look at ourselves which is something you added that I loved. Adding that will definitely help people see what was going on in Kansas and Oklahoma.

  2. I really like the picture you added, it really gave me an understanding of what is happening in the places not all of us get to go see. Also, it taught me some of the uses of all the big pipes in the ground.

  4. I like how you related your topic back to the Midwest because being from the area it helps give background information and a better understanding to your topic. Your blog was very easy to relate to and it also help me understand the problems that costal regions endure. I also think it was cool that you watched a film that related to your topic because I think your understanding and knowledge from the film showed in your blog. I also like the picture you put because shows just exactly how everything works and helps me to understand the whole process and how it causes earthquakes.
