Deforestation in the Rainforest

I looked over an article from Times about the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest by Matt Sandy. In this article it talked a lot about all of the things happening to it and how we are destroying it. Some of the reasons included land for beef, logging companies and many other things. There is also many forest fires there and they are killing many of the plants and animals there. It talked about how we have already lost 17% of the forest there and ones it hits 20% to 25% scientists believe that it will hit its breaking point. This will be very bad for the wold, because the Amazon does many things for it. All the trees there soak up tons of water. They also let off tons of oxygen and take in carbon dioxide. Without the Amazon rainforest there will be so much more carbon dioxide in the air. In my opinion I think that this is a really big problem for the world and we need to stop taking down the trees here.

Yes, I've heard that the Amazon produces as much as one fifth of our breathable oxygen, which seems pretty important! Lots of struggle inside Brazil over development.

I loved your post! I'm from Brazil and the deforestation of the Amazon has really been critical there, there have been a lot of fires and they are difficult to control because of the large territory and it is sad to see this happening and to know that all this could be avoided, in human beings it has a part of the blame for this happening, we can only reverse this so that nature is less damaged and who knows how to recover what has already been lost.

I very love your blog. We have the same topic and that why I find it very interesting. I did not know before reading your post that we have already lost 17% of the forest. It is so bad and we have to react.
