How projects from a long time ago are restoring damaged ecosystems

We have heard about the woolly mammoths and how we are trying to bring back them into the

wild or more so to where Siberian steppes. Many other projects are doing the same thing today

and are trying to restore what was damaged more than 20 to 30 years ago. When we take big

animals including elephants, rhinos, and many other mammals, we make an imbalance that

doesn’t help all the other species do their job which makes that population increase rapidly. If

we lose just one important specie, then we are still making disastrous things for other species

that rely on that one important specie. Us, humans, rely on so many species of animals because

we eat meat and if we imbalance that population, then we aren’t getting that source of meat

anytime soon. The one keystone species that isn’t an omnivore or herbivore but is in fact the

rodent.

Beavers can transform environments very, very quickly by making dams for themselves to sleep

in or stay for a while. This can include in stream or rivers that have water for them to make

their dams with tree trunks. This helps a huge range of species that live near the beaver

including the otter and dragonflies. This is also a huge problem towards farmers and

landowners because they are worried their farmland or property might be flooded because of

the beavers.

We know that climate change is a huge factor today but if we reintroduce mammoths into the

Siberian steppes, then who knows how that will end up looking like and how that will impact

the earth. We don’t know unless we experience it but to be honest, I don’t want to experience

that.

  1. Yes, I'm curious about these de-extinction projects. Jurassic Park didn't go so well, but I would like to see a mammoth. And maybe it might help Siberia's ecology.

  2. I think that your idea is very interesting. I like that you bring up different things such as bringing back the woolly mammoth and how beavers change the environment. I would like to have more information on the impact on the environment that animals have. What if they bring the woolly mammoth comes back how would that affect the environment?
